UPDATE ON CITY HALL OFFICE CLOSINGS

-Updated on January 24, 2005 at 5:25 pm-

WATERBURY, CT, January 24, 2005 --- The Office of the Mayor tonight announced further updates to office closing and functions due to yesterday’s flooding of City Hall.

It is anticipated that City Hall Offices will reopen to the public on Thursday, January 27, 2005.  In the meantime, the City Plan Office, the Assessor’s Office, the Inspections Office and the Town Clerk’s Office (including Vital Statistics) will be operating out of the basement auditorium of the Silas Bronson Library.  The Vital Statistics will be operating in a limited capacity, and will not be able to issue certified copies of Birth, Marriage or Death Certificates during this time.  In addition, the public will not be able to perform title searches or land record searches.  The Assessor’s Office asks that that if you need a property search performed, please use their website located at http://www.waterburyrealestate.org.  The public can contact these offices through the Mayor’s Office at 203-574-6712 or the Citizen’s Service Center at 203-597-3444.

The Tax Collector’s office will continue to function from the Mayor’s Office on the first floor in the Chase Municipal Building, 236 Grand Street until at least Thursday, January 27, 2005.  The Tax Collector’s Office can be reached at 203-574-6715.  Whenever possible, the Tax Collector asks that you mail-in any payments.

“I want to thank all the residents of Waterbury for their patience and cooperation during this difficult transition,” said Mayor Michael J. Jarjura.  “City Employees are working diligently to make sure that City Hall functions are not disrupted and that the level of service to Waterbury’s citizens is not compromised. I appreciate everyone’s continued assistance as we try and repair the damage in City Hall.”

For more information on City Hall Office openings and functions, please call the Citizen’s Service Center at 203-597-3444.

The Office of the Mayor will continue to update this information throughout the week.
