3/1/2000 - Water Main Break and Repair on Thomaston Avenue

Main Break on 36” Low Service Transmission Main

February 29, 2008

The Waterbury Water Department has a water main break on its 36” low service transmission main on Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury just south of the Department of Motor Vehicle.

We will be shutting down the low service transmission main on Sunday morning (March 2, 2008) and beginning the repairs. We will be transferring water temporarily through a high service transmission main and reducing the pressure before the water reaches the low service area. This procedure may cause reduced pressure in some areas.

Repairs to the broken water main may stir up sediment in the pipes causing discolored water in some areas of the city especially the low service area (low elevation areas of the City of Waterbury around the Naugatuck River).

Repairs to the water main are expected to take about a day, but because the water flows will be shifted then shifted back, the discoloration could last for a few days possibly up to a week in some areas.

For information, call the Water Department at 574-8251.
