CITY OF WATERBURY PROVIDES UPDATE ON WATER EMERGENCY AND DRINKING WATER DISTRIBUTION

The City of Waterbury continues to respond to a major water emergency following the failure of a high-pressure water main, which caused a widespread loss of water pressure and service throughout the city. Emergency repair efforts are ongoing, with city, state, and federal partners working around the clock to stabilize the system and restore safe water service.

Earlier today, Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. was joined by Governor Ned Lamont, officials from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and the Connecticut National Guard to provide an update on the coordinated response. Due to the system-wide loss of pressure, residents will be required to boil water once service is restored, and all restaurants are required to remain closed until the water system is tested and approved by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Waterbury Public Schools will be closed on Monday as a result of the ongoing emergency.

Drinking Water Distribution Update

Tonight, Bozzuto’s and Dasani-Coca Cola Northeast, delivered a combined four truckloads of bottled water, which have been transported to Municipal Stadium. Residents in need tonight can obtain water at Municipal Stadium, 1200 Watertown Avenue where city staff, volunteers, and the Connecticut National Guard are assisting with distribution.

An additional ten truckloads of bottled water are en-route from Pennsylvania. Once these shipments arrive, the water will be split between Municipal Stadium and Crosby High School, 300 Pierpont Road, to ensure wider distribution throughout the city.

The City of Waterbury is actively sourcing all available bottled water across Connecticut and New England to meet resident needs. The Emergency Operations Center remains fully activated and staffed, with state officials supporting city personnel in coordinating distribution and emergency response efforts.

Residents with questions or seeking information are encouraged to call 311, where staff are available to provide assistance.

The city will continue to provide updates as more resources arrive and repairs progress.
