Statement from Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr.:
The City of Waterbury continues to make significant progress in addressing the recent water main issues on Huntington Avenue. Crews worked through the night and into this morning to restore water service following the installation of new valves.

During last night’s shutdown, crews encountered unexpected difficulty reducing pressure in the main, which caused a delay in completing the work. Superintendent of Water Bradley Malay explained that the pressure needed to be lowered to a safe level before the pipe could be tapped for the new valves. “Without reducing the pressure, it would have been unsafe for our workers to proceed,” Malay said. “Our team worked 24 hours straight to complete the repair as quickly and safely as possible. The safety of our residents and employees is always our top priority.”

Now that the new valves are in place, crews can move forward with repairing the damaged section of pipe. The water system must fully re-pressurize, and water samples will be collected and tested to ensure safety before the advisory can be lifted.

The City is committed to maintaining the integrity of our infrastructure and appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and businesses affected by this work.
