City of Waterbury Announces Scheduled Water Main Shutdown Early Sunday Morning

The City of Waterbury, Bureau of Water, will conduct a brief system shutdown early Sunday morning to complete the final repair work on the Huntingdon Avenue high-pressure main.

The planned shutdown is expected to last approximately 90 minutes and will begin shortly after midnight, during a period of minimal system demand. This schedule is designed to limit any potential impact to residents and businesses. The City anticipates little to no noticeable drop in water pressure or water loss during this time.

This shutdown is necessary to safely reduce pressure in the main, allowing crews to complete the final phase of the repair. The current system pressure is too high to perform the work without additional risk to employees and contractors.

Precautionary measures are in place to ensure continued water service stability. Both hospitals will remain fully supported throughout the process, and the City can return to the bypass system immediately if needed.

“The Water Department has assured us that this work will be completed quickly and safely,” said Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we take these final steps to strengthen our water infrastructure.”

The City does not expect any significant changes in service during this brief maintenance period.
