7/6/2020 - East Liberty Street Bridge Reconstruction
Press Release

On June, the City of Waterbury executed a contract with Dayton Construction Company of Watertown for the demolition and reconstruction of the East Liberty Street Bridge over the Mad River. During construction, East Liberty Street will be closed between River and Mill Streets. Detour and informational signs will be erected on East Liberty, River, South Main, Washington and Mill Streets as well as Baldwin Avenue to provide direction. Trafficmen will also be present to help guide motorists during construction which is expected to begin this Summer with the removal of trees and relocation of overhead and underground utilities prior to demolition of the bridge. The total time of construction is expected to range from 250 to 300 days, and depending on the extent of possible weather delays, may be completed by late Spring 2021.
The anticipated cost of the project approximates $ 3.0 million dollars of which the ConnDOT Local Bridge Program will reimburse 32.93 % of the costs.
