10/3/2016 - Former Alderman John Sarlo to be honored today as Italian-American Mayor for the Day

WATERBURY, Conn. – Son, husband, father, grandfather. Patriot, veteran, dedicated public servant. Those words and more can all be used to describe John Sarlo, a lifelong Waterbury resident who will be honored Ftoday - riday Oct. 7 - as Waterbury's 2016 Italian Mayor for the Day.

John is a former Waterbury Alderman, a military veteran and an active member of the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee who can be found at every event in Waterbury in which a military veteran is honored.

A longtime Democrat, John has served his city for many years, including as a member of the Board of Aldermen who was always known for doing his due diligence.

John was married for 56 years to his loving wife Nancy Lee (McQuade) Sarlo, who passed in 2014. Together they raised eight children who blessed them with 14 grandchildren, plus great-grandchildren as well.

Italian Mayor for the Day events begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 7 with a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The official ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at City Hall followed by a reception at approximately 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Hall on the second floor of City Hall.
