2/12/2016 - Shelters and warming centers will be open this weekend

WATERBURY LISTS SHELTERS AND WARMING CENTERS FOR FRIGID WEEKEND

 Waterbury Mayor Neil M. O’Leary announced a list of shelters and warming centers that will be open in Waterbury this Saturday and Sunday when temperatures are expected to drop to single digits and below.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Waterbury will open its shelter at 114 Benedict Street for 24 hours throughout the weekend.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society Soup Kitchen at 327 Baldwin Street will be open Saturday and Sunday until 1 p.m.

Silas Bronson Library, 267 Grand Street, will be open as a warming center Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. A conference room in the Library’s lower level will be open as a warming center on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Workers will be on site to direct people to the center.

Higher Calling Ministry, 42 Bank Street, second floor, will have its warming shelter open throughout the weekend.

A hospitality center at 693 East Main Street will also be open Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., closing Monday morning.

Anyone in need of assistance should call 2-1-1.

Officials in our Education and Parks Departments are on call in case a large apartment building or public housing complex loses heat and the need arises for a large warming center, such as a school or park house.
