1/6/2016 - Mayor O'Leary, UConn President Herbst cut ribbon on Rectory Building downtown

Waterbury Mayor Neil M. O’Leary and University of Connecticut President Susan Herbst were joined by state and local officials on Tuesday Jan. 5, 2016 when they cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Rectory Building in Downtown Waterbury.

The Rectory Building is at 110-118 East Main Street – next to the Palace Theater.

The historic 1889 structure has undergone a complete renovation and its upper floors will be used by Waterbury UConn for classrooms, a student lounge and a large meeting space. Plans are underway for a Starbucks Coffee shop to occupy the lower floor.

“This is the launching pad” to the revitalization of Downtown Waterbury, Mayor O’Leary said.

“We want to be part of this Downtown,” President Herbst said, citing the long bonds between Waterbury and the University of Connecticut.

The renovation was made possible through a partnership with the City of Waterbury, Waterbury UConn and the Waterbury Development Corporation.
