The City of Waterbury has a project for the first phase of the Naugatuck River Greenway. Preliminary design has been completed and the project is slated for construction with Federal funding participation from various programs administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. It is the City's and the State's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the project's development. The City will conduct an informational meeting on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 7:00 PM in the Kennedy High School Auditorium located at 422 Highland Avenue Waterbury, CT.

Phase 1 of the 7.5 mile, City of Waterbury Naugatuck River Greenway is approximately 2.2 miles long starting at the existing Naugatuck River Access Boat Launch on Platts Mill Road and will continue northerly on Platts Mill Road to South Main Street where the path will traverse a new passive recreational park out letting onto South Main Street. The path will then continue northerly along the east side of the Naugatuck River to Eagle Street. The Platts Mill Road leg of the greenway will be an on-road bike route. The park and South Main Street leg will be a new shared-use, bicycle and pedestrian path. The park will feature a parking lot, nature trail, Kayak launch and other amenities. Based upon a preliminary assessment, the total construction cost will be approximately 5.5 million dollars.

Funding will be provided by The Federal Highway Administration, The City of Waterbury and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
