2/28/2014 - Silas Bronson Library To Receive $500,000 From The State

The State Bond Commission today approved $500,000 in funds for renovations and improvements to the Silas Bronson Library.

The money will allow the library to provide improved services as well as aesthetic upgrades to the library’s main lobby, the first floor computing center, the young adult area, and the lighting in the main reading room.  The funding request came after Gov. Malloy’s visit to Waterbury last month. Gov. Malloy toured the library with Mayor O’Leary and saw firsthand the need for enhancements.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to Gov. Malloy for working so expeditiously to get this funding for Waterbury,” Mayor O’Leary said. “Gov. Malloy recognizes that the Silas Bronson Library is a valuable asset in our community and the investment will improve the quality of life of many residents.”

“The Library Board is extremely excited to finally have an opportunity to beautify its interior for the first time in many years,” said Emmett McSweeney, Silas Bronson Library Director. “We've been able to work on the exterior of the building which is a remarkably beautiful example of the ‘International Style’ of architecture. The state funding will allow the library to reflect visually its important role as an Information Technology Center for the city of Waterbury.”
