8/16/2013 - Back to School Rally, August 21

As part of its Campaign for Grade Level Reading activities, the community will hold a Back to School Rally on August 21st in Library Park from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Mayor Neil M. O’Leary and Dr. Kathleen Ouellette encourage all city families to attend the rally and take the Waterbury School Success Family Pledge – the mayor and the superintendent want you to know that attendance matters from the first day of school until the last day. Let’s start out the school year right.

It was announced on May 31st that Waterbury is now a Campaign for Grade Level Reading community, one of 150 such communities in the country. Communities joining the campaign are focused, like Waterbury, on promoting school readiness, reducing chronic absence, improving summer learning, and engaging parents as their children’s first teachers. The Mayor’s Office fully supports the Bridge to Success community partners who are working together to assure that Waterbury’s children are ready for Kindergarten and are reading well by third grade.
