The 15th Annual Coqui Scholarship and Awards Banquet sponsored by the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury is scheduled for Friday Oct. 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, 63 Grand Street.

Mr. Lopez has already announced the 2016 award recipients.

The Community Service Awards go to Attorney Eugene L. DeFronzo and Attorney Hector Ventura. The Special Recognition Awards go to Inspector Miguel Cruz of the Waterbury Fire Department and Sgt. Jose Avelo of the Waterbury Police Department. The Pioneer Award goes to Pedro Velez. The Education Award goes to Jorge Irizarry of the Waterbury Department of Education, and the Parent Award goes to Wally and Virginia Plaza.

The Tavis Tindall Outstanding Student Scholarships go to Emily A. Ramos of Kennedy High, Arlene Once, Waterbury Arts Magnet School, Adrian Rijos, Kennedy High and Ruben Martinez, Kaynor Tech.
