6/9/2016 - Waterbury again honored for excellence in financial reporting

WATERBURY, Conn. – For the 9th consecutive year, Waterbury has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the field of government accounting and financial reporting and its attainment “represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the Chicago-based Government Finance Officers Association said in a statement.

Waterbury Mayor Neil M. O’Leary was pleased with the news and is arranging to accept the award on behalf of the City’s Department of Finance.

“Winning this recognition nine years in a row is a testament to the hard work of our Finance Department,” O’Leary said. “We continue to be very proud of the progress we’re making not only in how we report our finances but also in our day-to-day financial operations, resulting in a solid bond rating that positively reflects our City’s finances.”

Waterbury’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the association’s high standards, which include demonstration of a constructive “full spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
