10/31/2012 - Department of Public Works Expanding Yard Waste Collections

As part of the ongoing cleanup efforts from Hurricane Sandy, the Department of Public Works will expand yard waste collections.

Citywide collection of Bagged Yard Waste will occur on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012.  Because of disposal requirements only yard waste in bio-degradable bags will be collected in this operation.

A second citywide yard waste collection will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Leaves and small brush should be placed in bio-degradable bags and placed curbside for collection.

Brush and Limb Collection: A brush and limb collection will be conducted on Sunday, Nov. 4.  This special collection is intended to assist residents that may have had limbs come down in the yards during the storm.  It is not intended to be for the disposal of limbs or trees taken down by commercial tree services.

Residents are reminded that yard waste should be no larger than 4" in diameter and 4 foot in length tied and placed curbside.

Extended Transfer Station Hours: For the convenience of residens, the hours of the Mark Lane Transfer Station have been extended for this weekend to accept limbs and yard waste from this week's storm.  The Transfer Station will be open Saturday, Nov. 3 from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  and Sunday, Nov. 4 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Yard waste and brush must adhere to the requirements above for disposal.

The annual limit of 4 free disposal loads has been waived, but in order to dispose of yard waste at the facility, residents will be required to provide valid identification such as a driver's license as proof of Waterbury residency.
