All Jazz First Thursday Presents:

The Mario Pavone Ensemble
 

January 5, 2012 5:30-7:30pm

   

Bassist and composer Mario Pavone will perform at the Mattatuck Museum's First Thursday. All are invited to come and enjoy a thrilling evening of jazz with this music legend and Waterbury, CT native who will be accompanied by alto saxophonist Kris Allen, Philippe Crettein on saxophone, Craig Hartley on piano, trombonist Peter McEachern and Curtis Torian on drums.

                                                            

Unlike most artists whose careers span five decades, his most recent recordings are his most widely acclaimed, appearing on best-of-the-year lists from the Village Voice and the New York Times, among others. He currently serves as an educator, administrator and board member for the Litchfield Jazz Festival and Litchfield Summer Jazz Camp in Litchfield, Connecticut. Mario Pavone has been awarded the prestigious 2009 Chamber Music America / New Jazz Works / Commissioning and Ensemble Grant. He was one of 12 recipients chosen from a pool of 161 applications. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious New Work Commission from the Chamber Music America funded by the Doris Duke Foundation.

68th Annual Connecticut

Artists Juried Exhibition

 

The Slater Museum's

Annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition will return in 2012.

 

Submission deliveries for the 68th Annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition will be accepted on Saturday and Sunday, February 4 and 5 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Information and instructions, including a new access route to the gallery, are available at www.slatermuseum.org.

 

The 68th Annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition will open February 19, 2012 with a reception February 26 from 1 to 3:00 p.m. in Converse Art Gallery. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served. The Juror for the exhibition is Jeffrey W. Andersen, Director of the Florence Griswold Museum. A native of Northern California, Andersen holds an M.A. in Museum Studies from Cooperstown Graduate Program (SUNY-Oneonta), Cooperstown, New York and a B.A. in History from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon.  

 

Award winners of the Slater Museum's Annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition have included established and emerging artists across Connecticut. Cash prizes ranging from $500 to $100 are awarded according to the judge's discretion. Through a special gift from the Katherine Forest Crafts Foundation, the 68th Annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition will include a special award for excellence in Textile Art.
