The Mattatuck Museum is pleased to announce a new partnership with David Alan Catering for the café in the museum. The Mattatuck Museum Café will reopen on Tuesday, October 11th with a brand new lunch menu featuring hot panini sandwiches, freshly tossed salads and pre-order pickup availability! 

David Alan Catering will operate the museums café on a daily basis Monday through Friday 11am-1:30pm.

Complete meals (sandwich, chips and a drink) are priced at $8.00 but are reduced to $6.50 when a customer presents their employee ID or badge for working at a local Waterbury company.

Lecturer Judy Kollias invites you to be the judge of this juried show of over 100 works of art. Each week we will focus on a different subject including portraiture, still life, and landscape as Ms. Kollias invites the audience to define what makes a work appealing, compelling and memorable.

All Jazz First Thursday Presents: Champian Fulton

Thursday, October 6 5:30-7:30pm 

Champian was influenced at an early age by her father Stephen, a world reknowned Jazz trumpeter. She has been in New York City since 2003, and has become a part of the Jazz scene. Besides leading her own gigs Champian has been able to play with some world-class musicians such as Louis Hayes, Jimmy Cobb, Frank Wess, and Lou Donaldson. She has been a mainstay at Birdland, the Jazz Corner of the World, and you can catch her at a number of other venues in Manhattan. Champian lives in New York City and continues to play the music she loves with her current trio featuring Neal Miner (bass) and Fukushi Tainaka (drums).

 Remember the dress you wore to your high school prom? So does Jill Cutler. This is how she and her mother chose her dress for the New York Military Academy Ball in the 1950s:

"It boiled down to a choice between two dresses. Both were strapless, with heart-shaped bodices, and had acres of skirt pouffing out from their tiny waists. I liked the red dress better, but my mother was worried about whether it would stay up-when I zipped the zipper I could still breathe, so she knew it didn't fit."

Jill Cutler has worked in publishing and taught English composition at Yale. She also ran the Yale Summer Writing Program.

Shared Sensibilities: The Art of Sol LeWitt and His Friends

Exhibit Opening 

Thursday, October 13 5:00-7:00pm: 

This two-part exhibition features both the work of Sol LeWitt and a look at the contemporary art collection that he and his wife Carol created. The exhibition features LeWitt's art since the 1990s and features a structure from LeWitt's Incomplete Open Cube series and twenty works on paper.

The work of contemporary artists who were LeWitt's friends and colleagues will be on view. Their work, paintings, sculpture, photography and prints were selected from the LeWitt Collection.

The Hidden Corners of Historic Middlebury:

Bus Tour with Rachel Carley

Join architectural historian, Rachel Carley on a tour of her favorite "finds" in Middlebury. We will explore the history of Gunntown and the charm of Sandy Hill as we tour the lesser known parts of town. Participants will meet at the museum at 1:30pm.

Norman Rockwell Museum and Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art

Wednesday, October 19

Take a trip to the beautiful Berkshires and explore two outstanding museums where we will tour distinctively different collections. We will visit the new Norman Rockwell Museum to see Rockwell's paintings that depict everyday American life and showcase our nation's ideals. Highlights include enduring favorites from Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post covers and the powerful Four Freedoms.

We will then head to Mass MoCA where we will take a guided tour of Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective. This monumental exhibit features 105 of LeWitt's large-scale wall drawings, spanning the artist's career from 1969 to 2007.

Meet at St George's Episcopal Church (Tucker Hill Road and Rt. 188 in Middlebury) at 8:15am or the Exit 18 Commuter Lot (West Main Street in Waterbury) at 8:30am.
