 Chef Series Toast

Learn valuable cooking techniques and tips from a well known, local chef then enjoy the meal in an elegant museum setting. Richard will teach us culinary versatility with a special dinner featuring:

Apple and Brie Turnover with a Port Reduction

Lobster Cappuccino with Vanilla Bourbon Chantilly

Wild Mushrooms in a Red Wine Sauce with Pappardelle Pasta and Manchego Cheese

In college, Richard participated in a culinary exchange to Paris, France and did his masters work in Italy. Since then he has strengthened his culinary skills, working in many renowned kitchens.

Spoken Word

The Poetry Salon 2011 takes its inspiration from the museum's dazzling collection of 10,000 buttons collected all over the world. Join us for an evening of poetry and music in celebration of those beautiful little fasteners which are part of our city's heritage. Our host for the evening will be local noted poet Ernie Blue. Phil Rosenthal, former Connecticut State Troubadour, will perform bluesy folk. The much admired string musician and fan favorite, Dan Tressler, will perform. Also on the roster is the Boston based spoken word artist Regie Gibson, whose work is inspired by the blues, jazz and the music of Jimi Hendrix. Gibson will be joined by noted poets Elizabeth Thomas and Tom Nicotera.

Garden Variety

The program begins at the at the Mattatuck Museum where noted garden expert and master gardener Katherine Neville will discuss how to use annuals, perennials and herbs to create a color and texture all summer long. Then travel to the magnificent gardens of landscape designer Wesley Rouse who will tour the group through a series of special gardens covering six acres.

  The Annual Brass Button Award given by the Mattatuck Museum recognizes the outstanding contributions by an individual from the greater Waterbury area to the culture and social enrichment of their community.

  

Like the Brass Button, this individual is resilient; one who never stops shining, although the fabric around them may wear away, they prevail, making the community a better place by their consistent commitment.

 

 

 

 This year we are proud to present Mr. William J. Pape II this award for his lifelong commitment to social and cultural enrichment.

Join us for a provocative and cutting edge cocktail party and show at the Mattatuck Museum. The museum will showcase outrageous paper dresses and headpieces, whimsical paper ties, and racy and elegant designs of custom and vintage motorcycles from the collection of Doc's Motorcycle at this unique party. These racy road warriors will be exhibited with a collection of breathtaking handmade paper dresses. Fantastic hair sculptures by the area's best hair designers will put the entire show over the top.
