RE: 34th ANNUAL POETRY CONTEST

The Silas Bronson Library celebrates the 34th Annual Poetry Contest which is sponsored by the Children's Services Division of the Silas Bronson Library and is open to all children in Grades 1-8 who live in Waterbury or attend school in Waterbury. The themes for this year are:
Grade 1 - My Favorite Color
Grade 2 - Flowers
Grade 3 - Smells
Grade 4 - I Feel Like Dancing
Grade 5 - City in the Spring
Grade 6 - Communication
Grade 7 - When I Like to be Alone
Grade 8 - What can I change
To qualify, all entries must reach the Children's Services Division of the Main Library or the Bunker Hill Branch no later than Friday April 24, 2009 by 5:00 p.m. All entries must be the original work of the entrant. The only information permitted on the front of the entry is the title and text of the poem. An official registration form must be attached to the back of the entry. These forms are available at the Silas Bronson Library (Main and Bunker Hill Branch) and at the schools. Entries cannot be returned. Entrants are asked to keep a copy of their poem for their records. Entries submitted in a foreign language must be accompanied by the English translation.
Judging will be based on the translated version of the poem. Winners will be notified by phone
in mid-to-late March. The Friends of the Silas Bronson Library and the Connecticut Humanities Council provide funding for the Annual Poetry Contest. For additional information, please call the Children's Services Division at 574-8212.
