Most of us have enjoyed the beauty of Central Park, the Boston Greenway, or Dumbarton Oaks, yet many of us know little about the people who created them. This history combines threads of culture, economics and social movements intertwined with the creation of beautiful spaces. Ms. Small will present the histories and ideas of some of these groundbreaking landscape designers, including Andrew Jackson Downing, Frederick Law Olmstead, Jens Jensen, Beatrix Farrand and Fletcher Steele.

Virginia Small is an award-winning journalist and former senior editor of Fine Gardening magazine in Newtown, CT. She received awards for her photography in Fine Gardening from Print magazine and the Garden Writers of America. She has studied garden design history at the New York Botanical Gardena nd design theory at Ringling School of Art and Design.
