7/2/2015 - Mayor sponsors July 4 block party competition with $1K prize

July 4 Block Party Competition

Mayor Neil M. O’Leary is reminding Waterbury’s Neighborhood Groups that he’s sponsoring a July 4 Block Party Competition and that the winning party will be awarded $1,000.

The competition is being held in conjunction with the City launching its July 4 fireworks from Holy Land atop Pine Hill. The fireworks were moved from Municipal Stadium due to renovation work being done at the Stadium.

Residents are being encouraged to hold patriotic block parties and to later watch the fireworks from public places including Maloney School and Washington Park.

“We want our block parties to highlight the celebration of July 4, patriotism and the message of what our freedom and independence mean to us as citizens of Waterbury and the United States,” Mayor O’Leary said.

So far, the South End Neighborhood Association has organized a July 4 block party as have the residents of Exchange Place Towers.

If your Neighborhood Group wants to get in on the chance to win $1,000 by organizing a block party, please contact Terry Corcoran at the Mayor’s Office to let him know, He’s at tcorcoran@waterburyct.org or 203-574-6712.
