Ernie Blue is a retired corrections officer whose life and work have been profoundly affected by the Million Man March. A poet in the slam tradition, he is also a master teacher in the art of performance poetry - often condensing decades - even centuries - of history into a single poem. His heritage and the responsibility he feels as an African-American male are at the center of his art.

Meet Janina B. Nawarskas

Wednesday, February 19, 6:30 p.m.
Born in 1936, Janina Nawarskas lived a comfortable life with her family in Lithuania until World War II abruptly disrupted it. As the Russian army was approaching from the East, the family headed West, where her father was abducted by the German army at the border. She dodged American bombs, lived in German war camp, suffered the loss of her mother and searched for her family before being reunited with her father and coming to the United States. This program is being held in conjunction with Lithuanian Independence Day, which is February 16th.
