11/8/2013 - Waterbury Water Department Plans Large Valve Replacement Project

The Waterbury Bureau of Water is announcing plans to replace a broken 30-inch shut off valve located on its water main at the intersection of West Main Street and Willow Street. The project will require the installation of a by-pass water line from a hydrant on Willow Street running south on Meadow Street to a hydrant on Brown Place.

Excavation of West Main Street for the large valve replacement is scheduled to begin on Friday Nov. 8 after 6 p.m. and is expected to be completed Monday morning Nov. 11. During that time, the westbound lanes of West Main Street will be closed to traffic from Central or Holmes Avenues to Willow Street. Traffic will be detoured onto Central Avenue or Holmes Avenue to Grove Street and back down Willow Street to West Main Street. No detour of eastbound traffic on West Main Street is expected.

Motorists should use caution when driving in this area, and should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances.

As with any large water valve replacement project, there may be some temporary discolored water and a potential small drop in water pressure for area water customers.

The Bureau of Water apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this work and reminds all customers that emergency problems can be reported 24/7 by calling 203-574-8251.
