Events at the Mattatuck Museum

May 1 -- 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Join Associate Curator Raechel Guest on a tour of the housing projects built for workers in the 19th century. The group will explore Brookdale Park, or "White City," known for its houses of white clapboard siding, a triple-decker house in Town Plot and a Scovill Row House. RSVP 203-753-0381 x. 10. May 5 -- First Thursdays. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Antonio Biello and the Latin Jazz Keynote Players at First Thursdays event at the Mattatuck Museum, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Live Music, wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres and access to the Museum's exhibits. Free for members; $10 for non-members.

May 20 -- Joseph Stein: His Life and Work, 1:00 p.m.  Rachel Carley's extensive research for the Mattatuck Museum has unearthed the personal treasures and archives of the architect Joseph Stein. Ms. Carley will present this material in a slide lecture covering the life and work of Stein. His signature designs include the award-winning Silas Bronson Library addition, the Waterbury Club, and the American Savings Bank. Call 203-753-0381 x. 10. Donation, $5.

July 18-22 -- "Fortune's Story and Slavery in Connecticut," a weeklong professional development institute for teachers. Program for 20 teachers will feature the research of two scholars, four master teachers and museum staff as they examine slavery as an engine of the economy of the 17th and 18th centuries in Connecticut.  Special attention paid to the lives of several African Americans from that time period.
