MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Department of Public Works is to provide quality construction, operations, and maintenance services for the City of Waterbury's infrastructure and facilities.

Director's Office

 

 

Manages & coordinates the activities of all bureaus within Public Works Department including [ but not limited to ]: budgets, personnel, policies & procedures, environmental conformance and safety issues, regulatory issues, and reports or communications with other city agencies.

Streets

 

Maintains all city streets and rights of way; removes debris and litter; maintains storm water system; fuel depot for city vehicles; snow removal

Refuse

 

 

Manages collection and disposal of all municipal & residential solid waste and recyclables, yard waste, and bulk waste; manages transfer stations, land fills, and bulk hauler contracts; enforces blight ordinances; assists Streets Department with snow removal when necessary.

Engineering

 

Oversees Public Works construction projects; maintains traffic control systems and signage; manages "call before you dig"; mangages proposed development projects; documents and maintains infrastructure records.

Central Vehicle Maintenance

 

Maintains city vehicle fleet and its utilization. Plans future fleet management.

Parks & Public Buildings

 

Maintains selected city building and equipment; manages openings and closing; manages shipping and receiving & inter-departmental mail.

Golf

 

Manages and oversees city golf courses. Sets Fees & Schedules, Rules & Policies, Tee Times, etc.....

Recreation & Leisure

 

Maintains all city parks, pools, and lakes; maintains public right of way landscaping; assists with blight removal; hangs & removes city decorations; coordinates community recreation programs; maintains city-owned utility poles.
