Waterbury Aldermen by District

The City of Waterbury currently elects its Aldermen “at large”, which means that every voter in Waterbury casts a ballot to elect all 15 Aldermen.  The City will soon change over to a different “by-district” election method.  Under this new method, the City will establish five three-member Aldermen districts within Waterbury.

Voters within each district will choose from among candidates who reside in a voter’s own district and who compete to serve as a representative on the City’s Board of Aldermen.  The new election method is scheduled to commence with the City’s next election on November 3, 2015.

The process of changing over to this new election method will be open to the public.  The City has retained an impartial demographer to form these five election districts in accordance with all legal requirements and then refine them in response to input from the public and the District Reapportionment Commission (DRC).

To seek that public input, the City and its Board of Aldermen invite all members of the public and representatives of interested community groups to attend and participate in public meetings, where the public can comment on the proposed boundaries of the five new Aldermen districts to be formed (meeting locations to be announced):

  • January   8, 2015: Presentation and review of Draft/Conceptual Alternative Plans
  • January 14, 2015: First Public Comment Session Regarding Draft Plans
  • January 22, 2015: Second Public Comment Session Regarding Draft Plans; Commission Discussion of Draft Plans
  • January 28, 2015: Final Decision on Plan to be Presented to the Board of Aldermen
